No matter what God calls us to do in life, we’ll be out of His will if we murmur or complain – about anything. For if we have an attitude that lends itself to a bitter spirit, no matter what we think we’re doing for the Lord, we are being ungrateful, and ingratitude is a sin that causes us to be out of God’s will.
I Thessalonians 5:18 says, “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
We all know that it displeases the Lord when we complain, but have you ever considered that you cannot take something for granted and be grateful for it at the same time? That means that taking something for granted, no matter what it is – my freedom, my health, my job, my salvation, my spouse or children, a roof over my head – is also a sin, because I’m not truly grateful for it.
James 1:17 says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”
So since every good and perfect gift comes from God above, how can we be in the will of God without offering Him continual praise and thanksgiving for that which He so generously provides?
