And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
John 14:13-14 KJV
According to this verse, Jesus personally answers prayers. He takes an active interest in us.
“If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.” All we must do is ask in His name. Why does Jesus personally answer our prayers? “…that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
See, it’s all about God’s glory. And for that reason, we must be careful to glorify God in our requests, our attitudes, and our motives. Why is God’s glory so important?
The purpose of our lives – our very existence – is to glorify God.
- I Corinthians 6:20 “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” You’re to glorify God in your body and in your spirit.
- Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” You’re to glorify God by your good works.
- John 15:8 “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.” You’re to glorify God by bearing much fruit.
- Romans 15:6 “That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” You’re to glorify God by what you think and what you say.
- II Thessalonians 1:12 “That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.” You’re to glorify Christ by your life.
God’s main purpose in answering our prayers is to bring Him glory so that His Son is exalted before all men. Everything we do as believers should lift up and glorify the name of our Savior. Including our prayers.
Jesus said in John 12:32, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.”
Jesus died for all mankind. His purpose is to draw all sinners unto Himself that they might be saved. That’s why we glorify the Son. Do your prayers glorify the Savior?
