Could You Recognize the Truth?

My daughter-in-law, Amy, had surgery last Thursday, and because of the nature of the surgery, the Army authorized emergency leave for my son, Toby, who flew home from Korea.  Then Amy’s mom, Joanne, and I drove out from Ohio to help Toby with the three little ones – ages 4, 5, and 6.  They live in Kansas. The surgery went well, and Amy is now recovering at home.  She can’t…

  • The Heart of Gratitude

My heart goes out to the Filipino people since the typhoon that devastated their island.  I cannot begin to understand their heartache and sorrow at the loss of life and the destruction of everything precious to them.  Not to mention, their struggle just to survive; to provide their families with the most basic of necessities – food, water, shelter, and safety. And then I thought about those still recovering from…

  • A Short Military Career

My husband, Floyd, and I met in England.  I was an A1C (E-3) in the United States Air Force, and he was a Tech-Sergeant (E-6).  He arrived on base in January, 1979 (seven months after I got there).  We started going together in May, and we got married in August.  (Short courtship.)  The following April, our son, Toby, was due, so I had to decide if I wanted to stay…

  • The Love of Jesus

Jesus loves our children far more than we do and He watches out for them in ways that we can’t, simply because He is omnipresent and can be with them everywhere they go at all times. I could have easily lost my son that day.  I’d taken my seven-year-old to a doctor’s appointment down at Children’s Hospital and I left my two older children with a neighbor around the corner…

  • Flying Accusations

When we’re hit with an accusation, our first response is usually defensive.  It doesn’t matter what it is, we deny it first and then we might think about it later.  When I was a young mother, a sister in the Lord said to me on the phone one day, “You’re a perfectionist, Marj.  Everything has to be perfect; even your kids.”   I denied that one in a hurry.  “No, I’m…

  • Loving One Another

Over the past few months, several of our church families have abruptly left, and many of those people had been workers, Sunday school teachers, youth leaders, active and faithful.  Then one day, without any apparent warning, they’re gone, and you have to ask yourself why.  What happened?  What caused them to suddenly leave the church without a word to anyone. People have a need to feel loved, cared for, appreciated,…

    1. I hope that was helpful, Michael. Have you ever visited “The Lord’s Page” on my website. That’s where I post my weekly devotionals. You might find them very helpful and encouraging as you continue to grow in the things of the Lord.

  2. I have been reading your blog; and this one just stumped me.
You stated that “the church didn’t exist until after the resurrection” can you please give me some insight on when you believe the church came in too existence.
    Still learning thanks

    1. Great question, Michael. I personally believed that the church started at Pentecost, but I asked my pastor for you. Here is what he said, “The church started when Jesus called out the apostles. They were the foundation and Jesus was the cornerstone. Before Pentecost you had baptism, the Lord’s Supper, etc. Pentecost was when the church was empowered.” I’m still learning too. Hope that helps.
