About the Author

Marjie Strebe

I loved writing ever since I can remember. In high school, I got drafted by the newspaper advisor to write for our weekly newspaper. And in college, I majored in journalism.

My youngest daughter was born with Williams Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder. The older she got, the more challenges I faced. There were two things that helped me survive those turbulent years.

The first was the Lord. The second was my writing. After a stressful day with Michelle, I’d sit down at the computer and lose myself in a world of make believe that I created. I wrote one novel-length story after another about a fictional character named Skip, a young Christian police officer.

But God started dealing with me about writing Michelle’s biography. So when my daughter was twelve-years-old, I started writing the story of her life – the adventures and struggle … the challenges and difficulties … the experiences few people could relate with, even those parents who were caring for a Williams child.

My very first published book was Michelle’s biography. It’s titled, “Another Day, Another Challenge: The Biography of a Child with Williams Syndrome.”

Since writing fiction helped me to de-stress from the daily challenges, I didn’t enjoy sacrificing those precious moments in order to relive each experience by putting it into writing.  It wasn’t therapeutic. It was torture.  So writing Michelle’s story was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.  And since I wrote a lot of it as it happened, it took me nearly twelve years to write the first edition, and Michelle’s story has been an ongoing adventure in patience; hence, the third (and hopefully, the last) edition of her story. (Edition just means I’ve added more information. It’s the same story as the first and second editions.)

Then I started rewriting and polishing my fiction series about Skip, who has a way of influencing others, regardless of the situation he finds himself in. During the creation of this series, I attended Citizen’s Police Academy classes, volunteered at the police station, and accompanied officers on police ride-alongs. I even had the privilege of working with officers on an OVI (operating vehicle impaired) checkpoint.

But my Treasures books were a result of answered prayer. I asked God to teach me how to study His word, so He did. As God taught me from His word, I started an online blog and posted little devotions. I had so many that I decided it was time to compile them into a book. And Treasures in My Spiritual Hope Chest was born.

As for all the fiction stories I wrote as Michelle was growing up, I decided it was definitely time to pursue publication for them, as well.
