In Ezekiel 39:7, God says, “So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.”
The Bible says that God is holy. Even His name is holy and should be spoken with reverence. And when God makes His holy name known to Israel, then the Gentiles will also know that God is holy. Over and over again, the Bible proclaims that…
- God is holy. Psalm 99:9 says, “Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy.”
- God is righteous. Psalm 145:17 says, “The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.”
- God is perfect. Psalm 18:30 says, “As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.”
- God is pure. I John 3:3 says, “And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.”
God is holy. His Word is holy. His ways are holy. His temple is holy.
I Corinthians 3:17 says, “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.”
For believers, the “temple of God” is their physical body. It is the home of God’s Holy Spirit, who indwells each and every believer, and God expects us to take proper care of His temple. God takes holiness very seriously. Everything about God is holy. There is no unrighteousness in God.
Before we knew Christ as Savior, our lives were characterized by sin and ungodliness in everything we did. But once a person puts his faith and trust in Christ, God’s Holy Spirit moves into his life, and his body is transformed into God’s holy temple. With God’s power to enable His children, He expects them to behave in a way that exemplifies His holiness.
That’s why I Peter 1:15-16 say, “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”
