Psalm 107:8 says, “Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!”
Why don’t we praise God for his goodness and the wonderful things that He does for us each and every day? There are two reasons. The first and most likely reason is that we don’t recognize God’s goodness and the things He does for us each day. The second reason is that we don’t appreciate what He does for us because we feel it’s our right to have those good things.
I’ve been told on several different occasions, “God hasn’t given me anything! I work for everything I have.” The person who holds this view fails to recognize everything that God has blessed them with, such as health, a job, and a healthy family.
- All it takes is one sick child to deplete your entire savings due to insurmountable medical bills.
- A house fire, flood, tornado, or hurricane can wipe out everything you’ve worked for, in addition to taking your precious loved one.
- A car accident can leave you permanently disabled and unable to work.
If you’ve never been touched by one of these tragedies, you’ve been tremendously blessed by God. But if you have experienced a financial or personal loss due to anything that’s beyond your control, be aware that Psalm 52:1 says, “…the goodness of God endureth continually.” That means that God’s goodness didn’t stop just because of a tragedy in your family.
So how does God display His goodness toward us?
God gives us rest. Matthew 11:28 says, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
God hears us when we pray. Luke 11:9-10 says, “And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
God gives us peace. John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
God gives us the Comforter (His Holy Spirit). John 16:7 says, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.”
God gives us the truth. John 17:17 says, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
God gives us safety. Psalm 4:8 says, “I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.”
God gives us the desires of our hearts. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”
God gives us guidance. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
God gives us loving discipline. Hebrews 12:6-7 says, “For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?”
God gave His Son. I John 4:10 says, “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
God offers us eternal life. Ephesians 2:8 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
God gives us strength. Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
God provides our needs. Philippians 4:19 says, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
God gives us His mercy. Titus 3:5 says, “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.”
Exodus 34:6-7 says, “And the LORD passed by before him (Moses), and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin….”
As you can see, God’s blessings are innumerable and without end. What has God done for you today? Have you thanked Him?
