“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
II Corinthians 4:6 KJV
We were once without Christ – living in total darkness. Then God shined His Light in our hearts, and that light revealed the knowledge of His glory in the face of His Son.
I Peter 2:9 says, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:”
God not only commanded the light to shine out of darkness, but he purposely shined it in our hearts and called us out of darkness into the light – His Light. If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, then God’s light shines in your heart, and you do not live in darkness. That means, if you’re reading and studying God’s word you’ll recognize the truth, and that truth sets you free.
In John 8:31-32, Jesus says, “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Without God, there is no light.
In John 8:12, Jesus said, “…I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” Without Christ, our world is in darkness. People walk in darkness, live in darkness, abide in darkness until God shines the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Think of a person who is lost in a pitch black cave. They wander around in darkness, not knowing which way to go. Then suddenly, they see a light shining on the face of the one who knows his way. Jesus doesn’t only know the way; Jesus is the Way.
Without the Light, we wouldn’t have the knowledge of the glory of God, which is Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son. Yes! Jesus is that Light.
