Hilltop Baptist Church, to which I belong, has been praying for revival, preparing for revival, and trusting God to bring revival. We’ve been inviting friends, handing out cards and tracts, and sharing with just about everyone we come in contact with. I had a handful of cards that the pastor had given me this morning – about 10. I slid each one into a gospel tract and we headed to the home of a friend to give her one and invite her to the Revival services.
As we passed the ballpark where my grandson plays baseball, Floyd pulled over to the curb. Cheryl (a friend) and I jumped out of the car with the tracts and thought we’d pass them out to the parents who were waiting for the ballgame to start. I handed one to a man sitting on the bleachers and the umpire said to me, “What are you selling?”
I turned to him and slid a tract through the backstop wire square. “Nothing. Our church is having revival services and we’re just out inviting people.”
He started to reach for the tract, but stopped. “I’m Catholic.”
I said, “That’s okay. Catholics need revival, too.”
Just as Cheryl joined me, he said, “God would get angry if I went to another church.”
Cheryl said, “No, He wouldn’t. He’s God.”
Well, the umpire took the tract. Maybe he took it just to get rid of us, or maybe he’ll come. Pray that God touches his heart. I didn’t get his name, but God knows who he is.
We want revival to capture our hearts, to infiltrate our souls, to flow through our church, and to turn our city upside down for Christ. That won’t happen aside from sincere, earnest prayer. James 5:16 says, “…The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Our prayers are our power. Pray for revival. Pray! Pray! Pray! Pray for the preacher who’s bringing the message each night. His name is Reggie Tipton. Pray for people to come with their hearts softened, already prepared to hear from God. Pray that the power of God flows through Hilltop Baptist Church. Pray that God binds Satan, who will attempt to disrupt the services and keep people from coming.
No matter where you live, you may also reap rewards from the Hilltop Baptist Church revival by praying every night for God to do a mighty work here in our church and city. But if you live in the Cincinnati area and would like to attend our services, you are certainly invited.
