A couple of weeks ago, as I was leaving a parking garage, I turned too quickly and smashed my driver’s side mirror when I spun it right into a concrete post. The instant I hit it, I jammed the brakes, but it was too late. The damage was done.
For the next two weeks, as I waited for the
new mirror that the car dealership ordered, my side mirror displayed a distorted view of the world passing by my car and of the traffic coming up behind me. That mirror is important to me. I rely on it to reflect traffic which is gaining on me on that side of my car so I know when I can safely change lanes or pull out into traffic from a dead standstill. All of a sudden, my view of traffic was warped, which made lane changes a lot more treacherous.
That’s the way many people view life. Their views of God’s world are cracked and distorted. And they make decisions based on their warped and distorted view of life. The only way that we can see the world clearly is through God’s word.
Psalm 19:7-11 declares…
- “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.”
- “The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.”
- “The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.”
- “More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.”
- “Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.”
Do you rely on the clear and pure Word of God to guide you through life, or are your decisions based on the distorted view of a cracked mirror?
