I’ve heard preachers say, “God has promised to meet our needs, but no where in the Bible does He promise to give us our desires.” That’s not true. He does promise to give us our desires, but that promise comes with a condition.
Psalm 145:19 says, “He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.”
As we draw close to God, we do the things that please Him. We learn how to put Him first in our lives. We read, study, and memorize His Word. We’re faithful in our church attendance. We love one another as we should. We learn how to listen to His voice and obey. Hence, these things help us to grow spiritually and our lives start to reflect the light of the Savior. When that happens, our desires are now His desires, because as we grow close to the Lord, He gradually changes our desires to align with his Word and plan for our lives. That’s why the Bible declares with confidence, that God will give us the desires of our hearts.
Are your desires in alignment with God’s? If they are, you can be assured that God will give you the desires of your heart. All you have to do is ask. If they’re not in alignment, you needn’t ask. But if you’re not sure, you need to dig deep in your Bible, asking God to teach you, spend earnest time with God in prayer, become more faithful in your church attendance, and obey the voice of God in every area of your life. Don’t just know about God. Build a relationship with Him. And then, when you have an intense desire, it may be one that God Himself placed in your heart. And now He’s waiting for you to ask for it.
