Verse of the Week: Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Encouraging Thought: God made it easy for you to begin developing a faith that would please Him. You start with His Word. How do you develop faith? By hearing the Word of God. Not just reading silently, but by hearing God’s Word as it’s read. Isaiah 55:11 says, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” God has a purpose for every word from His Word. And one of those purposes is to develop and strengthen our faith. That’s why Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Words of Wisdom: Your faith is a crucial part of your Christian walk and growth.
- Ephesians 6:16 says, “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” You’re to take the shield of faith and by it, you will extinguish the fiery darts of Satan.
- I Thessalonians 5:8 says, “But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.” You’re to put on the breastplate of faith and love. It doesn’t protect you accidentally, You have to make a conscious decision to shield yourself with faith and love.
- Romans 5:1 says, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:” You are declared righteous in the sight of God by your faith. That’s why Hebrews 10:38 says, “Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.”
For these reasons, faith is essential. And although the first step is easy – hearing the Word of God – developing strong faith requires exercising that faith, which is similar to building muscles. Even the strongest body builder started out learning to hold up his head.
I Timothy 6:12 says, “Fight the good fight of faith…” Developing faith is a fight. Keeping your faith is a fight. Everything in the world wants to tear it down. You must be in God’s Word to keep your faith firm and strong. In Sunday school. In preaching services. In Bible studies. In personal study and devotions. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
